Adult ADHD Assessment

Attention challenges are common in adulthood—and often shaped by many overlapping factors. A thoughtful evaluation can bring clarity and direction.

A Thoughtful, Whole-Person Evaluation

Many adults seek evaluation for ADHD after noticing long-standing patterns of difficulty with focus, organization, task completion, or mental overwhelm. These experiences can affect work, relationships, and daily life—and they are often influenced by many different factors.

At Lucera Health, our approach to ADHD assessment is careful, thorough, and grounded in whole-person care. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we take time to understand the broader context of your health, life experiences, and cognitive patterns.

To support a thoughtful and accurate evaluation, ADHD assessment at Lucera typically occurs over two visits.

Our Two-Visit Assessment Process

Diagnosing ADHD in adults requires more than a checklist. Many conditions can look like ADHD, contribute to it, or exist alongside it, which is why our process is designed to be thorough, unhurried, and clinically grounded from the start.

Visit One: Comprehensive Evaluation — 90 minutes

The first visit is a wide-ranging conversation about your physical, emotional, and cognitive health. Our goal is to understand the full picture of what may be contributing to your attention, focus, or executive functioning challenges — not to arrive at a quick answer, but a meaningful one.

During this visit, we explore:

  • Personal and family mental health history

  • Current symptoms and how they're affecting your daily life

  • Medical history and overall health

  • Lifestyle factors that may influence focus and cognitive performance

  • Sleep patterns, stress levels, and daily demands

When appropriate, we may recommend laboratory testing to evaluate possible medical contributors to attention or cognitive concerns.

We also take time to consider conditions that can mimic or contribute to ADHD-like symptoms, including:

  • Sleep disruption

  • Anxiety or depression

  • Trauma or chronic stress

  • Thyroid or hormonal changes

  • Nutritional deficiencies

  • Medication side effects

  • Substance use

  • Hormonal transitions such as perimenopause

This whole-person evaluation ensures that any follow-up ADHD assessment is both accurate and clinically meaningful — and that nothing important gets missed.

Visit Two: ADHD Diagnostic Evaluation — 60 minutes

If ADHD appears likely after the initial evaluation, a second visit focuses on a structured diagnostic process.

During this visit, we:

  • Conduct a standardized diagnostic interview reviewing ADHD criteria

  • Explore how symptoms have shown up across different stages of your life

  • Review childhood and developmental history

  • Assess the impact of attention challenges on work, relationships, and daily functioning

This careful, evidence-based process ensures that any diagnosis is thoughtfully considered — and that the path forward is grounded in a real understanding of you.

Whole-Person Care

Attention and cognitive challenges rarely exist in isolation. Factors such as sleep, stress, medical conditions, mood, and lifestyle patterns can all influence focus and executive functioning.

At Lucera, our goal is not simply to determine whether ADHD is present. Rather, we aim to understand the full picture of how your mind and body are functioning, and to develop a personalized plan that supports improved clarity, focus, and overall well-being.
