MEET OUR FOUNDER
Mary Reames Rinehart, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C
Five years ago, a dear friend asked, “When did you feel most inspired in your career?” It dawned on me that working with individuals and families in moments of great joy, great sorrow, transition, new chapters, and times of soulful needs were my most meaningful interactions. From that simple question came the idea for LUCERA.
My name is Mary Reames Rinehart – I attended the Medical University of South Carolina and have been a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2013. After moving to Nashville 6 years ago, I was fortunate to attend Vanderbilt University and add a secondary specialization as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Utilizing both trauma-informed therapeutic and medical frameworks, the goal is to take an integrative and holistic approach that supports individuals, children, adolescents, and families. Because every person has a unique story and perspective, I value the mantra of WHOLE-PERSON CARE, ALL STORIES WELCOME.
My husband is an artist, and we have been married for 21 years. We have personally experienced the highest highs, lowest lows, and everything in between in the journey of artists and their families. We have three little boys, and at this stage in life—as is the case with many of my clients—I could not be more grateful for our unique story.

Dual Certified Nurse Practitioner
I love working with individuals from all walks of life to provide support in whatever way feels authentic to them. Each person is beautifully unique, and working to find a collaborative plan should reflect this philosophy. Our approach often involves several key steps: discussing personal complexities, developing individualized or family-oriented plans, identifying needs and resources, and providing therapeutic interventions for children and caregivers. Through comprehensive medical assessments, we can recommend appropriate therapeutic, pharmacological, or supplemental treatments. We offer a range of options, always prioritizing what you find most supportive and important.

Candyce Miller, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC
Family and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
My name is Candyce Miller, and I have been providing patient care since 1997. My academic and professional journey has been closely tied to Vanderbilt University, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After spending 25 years in primary care as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I discovered that what inspired me most was connecting deeply with my patients and truly listening to their stories. That realization led me back to Vanderbilt once again, where I completed a second specialization as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Although much of my focus now involves mental health, the primary care provider part of me continues to support my patients. Years of managing complex medical needs and coordinating across specialties has given me a holistic, big-picture perspective. This lens helps me see each person beyond their symptoms and shapes my approach as a psychiatric provider who values comprehensive, whole-person care.
When people ask what population I most enjoy working with, I find it difficult to choose. Every individual carries a unique story, and all stories are welcome in my practice. My own journey—27 years of marriage, raising three children, and embracing life’s joys and challenges—has taught me that every chapter brings wisdom and growth.
I find deep meaning in walking alongside young adults as they discover who they are, supporting LGBTQ individuals and their families through their unique journeys, and honoring the resilience of older adults—a group that made up the majority of my primary care practice. Regardless of the population I am working with, my goal is always to create treatment plans that reflect each person’s needs and aspirations, whether through medication, supplements, therapy, or lifestyle approaches.
At Lucera, I’m excited to bring this whole-person philosophy into a collaborative model of care, supporting individuals and families as they write their next chapters of healing and wellness.
